Tiny Stars and God's Presence
Marianka shares with us a gentle reminder to slow down and notice God's presence. In a world that pushes us to grasp and strive, she reflects on a quiet moment that revealed how often we miss the beauty of simply being with Him. May her story encourage you to pause, look up, and rest in the joy of our glorious King.
After a run one evening 10 years ago, I lay down on the ground to rest. A black sky greeted me. While I was catching my breath, something strange happened. The stars started to fall on me – or so I thought in my exhausted state.
It was really just drops of rain. The tiniest drops I have ever seen. Their gentle caress barely registering – yet I knew the cool sting was theirs. As they fell, I watched them with wonder and then thought: I want to catch them.
I couldn't. Nothing I did would allow me to properly feel them on my hands. They were more like rain vapours than drops. And then they were gone. I couldn't appreciate their beautiful star state anymore.
Fast forward to today and I realise that I still fall into the same trap. Like the rain vapours, instead of sitting still and watching them fall like tiny little stars, I try to catch them and miss their real beauty.
It makes me a little sad to reflect that this is how I treat God sometimes, perhaps even most of the time, especially in my busy seasons. God wants us to sit in His presence. To reflect and be awestruck by who He is.
I encourage us both to reflect on Psalm 16:5-11 and remember that we are loved by a glorious king who invites us into His presence, fills us with joy, and secures our eternal inheritance.
5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
