Praying Missional Prayers

This Sunday we are launching a new series we’ve called ‘Lost and Found’. For the next few weeks we are going to explore God’s mission in the world. This is a big topic. In fact, the grand story of the Bible records God’s mission to restore a broken world and redeem a rebellious people. After Genesis 3 describes the fracturing of our relationship with God, we notice that God is on the move to restore not only humanity but the entire cosmos (Revelation 21:1). God’s mission is a big deal! And so, it begs the question, is God’s mission a big deal in our church? Is it a big deal in our lives as followers of Jesus? If we’re going to be all that God has called to be, we must be ready to embrace all that God is doing in the world.

Now, to that end, I would love to encourage you to begin by praying with us. We don’t look inside ourselves to find the power for the Christian life. We look to God. So, please join us in praying missional prayers as we explore this important topic as a church. Here are some prayer points you can use:

Pray that God would have mercy on those who don’t know Him

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.” (Romans 9:15–16)

Pray that God would open the hearts of those far from Him

“One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.” (Acts 16:14)

Pray that God would open doors for His word

“…pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ…” (Colossians 4:3)

Pray that God would bring knowledge of the truth

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people… 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1–4)

Pray for boldness to share Christ

“And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness…” (Acts 4:29)

Pray for perseverance to keep praying

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2)

With you in prayer,

Ben
