Nourishing Minds: A Podcast Guide for Thoughtful Listening

Have you ever heard the age-old saying: “You are what you eat”? I remember my Mum invoking this wisdom when faced with our abandoned, cold vegetables at the dinner table. It was a simple lesson, teaching us that failing to eat the nutritious choices would leave us lacking in energy and strength. It’s a basic principle – what we consume impacts our physical well-being.

What about our minds?

Just as the food we eat nourishes our bodies, what we listen to shapes our minds. Philippians 4:8 says to fill our minds with things that are pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. This includes the music we listen to, the shows we watch, and yes, today more than ever, the podcasts we choose to consume.

We have a plethora of choice when it comes to what we watch and listen to, and I admit it can be difficult to find the right ones. While I have an eclectic taste, there are certain podcasts I consistently go to that are rich in doctrine and biblical truth. I have listed them below, along with others recommended by some of the Oasis staff team.

Knowing Faith (exploring how faith is founded upon Scripture) Knowing Faith | Podcast on Spotify

Unbelievable (Christian Apologetics) Unbelievable? | Podcast on Spotify

Explaining Christianity (designed to do what its title implies; explain Christianity in simple terms) Explaining Christianity | Podcast on Spotify

Simply Put (great for new Christians and those wanting to deepen theological understanding) Simply Put | Podcast on Spotify

Sharing Hope (four-minute podcasts specifically designed for those needing a word of encouragement) Joni Eareckson Tada: Sharing Hope | Podcast on Spotify

Journey Women (interviews with Christians; made to help you know and love God and his Word) Journeywomen | Podcast on Spotify

Women of the Word (strategies, tips, and encouragement for Bible study that transforms the mind and heart) Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Jen Wilkin | Podcast on Spotify

Risen Motherhood (how Scripture applies to motherhood) Risen Motherhood | Podcast on Spotify

Tiny Theologians (listen with the kids) Tiny Theologians | Podcast on Spotify

It’s not a podcast, but I also recommend listening to God’s word. Open your Bible app and listen to the Bible being read aloud.

Remember that just as we carefully choose nutritious foods to nourish our bodies, we should exercise the same discernment when choosing what content fills our minds. Proverbs 23:12 says, “Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge.”

Happy (and healthy) listening, friends!
