Build Them Up: Father’s Day 2019

Father’s Day always provokes plenty of discussion about Dads and the role they play in the family and in society. There’s also plenty of ‘inspirational quotes’, ‘words of wisdom’, and ‘ancient proverbs’. The quotes tend to be a mixture of the astute, the nostalgic, and the just-plain-funny. Here’s a few I couldn’t go past:

“By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.” – Charles Wadsworth

“A father carries pictures where his money used to be.” – Steve Martin

“A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow.” – Unknown

“Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song.” – Pam Brown

“Being a great father is like shaving. No matter how good you shaved today, you have to do it again tomorrow.” – Reed Markham

Being a father is a high calling, and Dads need all the encouragement and support and inspiration they can get. Wouldn’t it be great if, instead of tearing Dads down, as our world too often does, we built them up?

Let’s encourage the Dads in our circles by reminding them they have been chosen by God to father their children and He will equip him with all of the wisdom, strength and patience they need.

Let’s come alongside Dads and affirm them in their role as they care for their children and lead their family. Let’s point them to the only perfect Father, our Heavenly Father.

And, let’s pray for Dads – that they will be filled with the Holy Spirit and will grow in love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Because, chances are, they’re going to need it.

Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads at BPCC!  Have a blessed day.
