How to Celebrate Advent with Your Family

Today marks the beginning of the Advent season, the four Sundays leading up to Christmas.

Advent is a season of anticipation, of holy waiting. We reflect on Christ’s first coming with a thankful heart, and look forward in hopeful anticipation to His second coming, when Christ will make all things new. Advent acknowledges the already-and-not-yet nature of the Kingdom of God.

This time of year can get crazy busy with activities and obligations, especially for families with young kids. I know our calendar is certainly looking very full.

So, can I encourage you to set aside a few minutes to consider what you want this season to be for your family. Then make a plan so that the important rhythm of remembering and celebrating Christ doesn’t get swallowed up by lesser things.

Did you know that the Growth Group Guide for our new series includes weekly Family Worship devotions? These are designed for your family to create intentional time and capture teachable moments. Each week you’ll find something to read together, make together, and talk about together. Why not make the most of this resource and plan this into your weeks leading up to Christmas?

You’ll also find an additional Family Worship devotion entitled ‘The Cross’. This devotional makes the connection between the baby born in a manger and the Saviour who died in our place. It explores the reason why Jesus needed to die, and offers an opportunity for your children to place their trust in Jesus. Make sure you don’t miss this particular devotion, it could lead to a significant moment in the life of your child.

I trust that this Advent will be a special time for you and your family as you prepare your heart for the coming of Jesus.

Blessings,

Caroline
