The Difficult One Recently, someone left the gate open on our farm (I won’t name names!). Within a very short amount of time, our sheep and cow went bolting down the road, out the front gate, and almost onto Dayboro Road! Luckily, we have great neighbours who alerted us, and I was able to lead them back to our paddock. My neighbour couldn’t lead them back, only me – their shepherd. It reminded me of Jesus’ words in John 10:27, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” I love how God works in our lives and teaches us through everyday incidents like this. "It’s the Hope That Kills You”  While no one is quite sure who came up with this line, it has, in recent years, been brought back into the spotlight through the hit show Ted Lasso. It’s the title and theme of Episode 10, Season 1, the season finale. The Lord Holds Your Hand If you have a number of young children, you will know that going anywhere is no small feat. The things you need to take with you, apart from the small humans, are almost endless. A picnic in the park will see you needing food, chairs, hats, water bottles, scooters, sporting equipment, spare clothing/nappies….and possibly more. What about rewards? “What about rewards?” I was immediately asked this question following the sermon in almost all three services last Sunday. For good reason. The sermon, which explored The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard in Matthew 20:1-16, focused on the scandalous nature of God’s grace. The shockingly good news that we all come to God in the same way and we all receive the same grace, whether we have “borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day” or “worked only one hour” (Matthew 20:12). In other words, whether we have served Jesus faithfully and sacrificially our entire lives or whether we have come in with only minutes to spare, like the thief on the cross (Luke 22:42-43).
